…is a licensed psychologist specializing in empirically-based cognitive and behavioral treatments for anxiety and mood disorders.
She received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from St. John’s University in Queens, New York, and has worked in a variety of settings, including partial hospitalization programs, outpatient clinics, and a college counseling center. Throughout her graduate training, Dr. Elder received extensive training in cognitive-behavioral therapy with children, adolescents, and their families.
Specifically, she completed an externship at the Eating Disorders Center at Long Island Jewish Schneider Children’s Hospital where she treated adolescents with eating disorders using cognitive-behavioral and family-based approaches. Through the PARTNERS research program at St. John’s University’s Center for Psychological Services, Dr. Elder trained in trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy with children exhibiting symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder following sexual and/or physical abuse. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Albert Ellis Institute in Manhattan where she gained expertise treating anxiety and depression in adults using Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT).
Most recently, her interests have focused on the treatment of adolescents and adults with obsessive-compulsive spectrum and other anxiety disorders at the Bio-Behavioral Institute in Long Island, New York, using cognitive-behavioral and exposure and response prevention (ERP) frameworks.
