A Statement In Response to the Victims of Racist Violence and Police Brutality
A statement in response to the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless other victims of racist violence and police brutality:
CBT Center unequivocally opposes systemic, cultural, and individual racism, racially motivated violence, hate speech, economic injustice, and all forms of prejudice and oppression. These destructive forces erode the mental well-being, physical health, and safety of Black Americans and other marginalized groups (Carter et al., 2018). To be silent is to be complicit, and we will not be complicit. We add our voice to those of other organizations and individuals calling for an end to racism, racial violence, and police brutality. We know that this statement is not enough on its own and that these problems will continue in the absence of meaningful action. We are reflecting on and addressing our own role in relation to perpetuating racism, whether by action or inaction, and pledge to continue efforts to address racism through advocacy, professional and personal learning and development, and dedication to multicultural counseling practices. Additionally, it remains our mission as therapists to provide caring, ethical, and effective treatment in an atmosphere of safety and respect for all.
