Dr. Liz Slonena, Psy.D
Dr. Liz is passionate about helping adults and adolescents thrive and live full lives. Using creativity, humor, and warmth, she creates a supportive space for you to learn new skills, re-discover your strengths, and foster resilience to overcome life’s struggles with confidence. Dr. Liz listens to deeply understand and craft an efficient treatment plan with you for your specific needs and goals.
Dr. Liz enjoys working with a medley of concerns: anxiety, depression, trauma, perfectionism, relationship challenges, and is LGBTQIA affirming. She also provides behavioral health treatments to assist with insomnia, chronic pain, smoking cessation, and healthy weight loss.
Dr. Liz holistically integrates evidence-based treatments with clinical hypnosis, mindfulness, and creative expression, if you are interested. She is trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT). Dr. Liz is completing her clinical hypnosis certification from the international Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH).
Dr. Liz earned her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Baylor University in Waco, Texas and her B.S. in psychology from the University of Florida. She completed a research fellowship at the National Institute of Health (NIH) investigating novel treatments for depression and completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina specializing in sexual trauma and LGBTQIA care. She is a co-author of over 12 scientific research articles and is the co-creator of Brief Mindful Hypnosis, a novel treatment for stress reduction and inner resilience. Dr. Liz loves painting, kickboxing, video games, exploring the mountains, and cuddling her two large dogs.
