…providing outpatient Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and Sports/Exercise Psychology.
Rick Baker received his master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and Sports and Exercise Psychology from Goddard (VT) College. He is also nationally certified as a Clinical Exercise Specialist with the American Council on Exercise. Using principles of his psychological training, and sometimes combined with sports and exercise, he has successfully treated adolescents and adults with wide ranging mental health issues. Combining his exercise background with his training in psychology allowed him to create an integrative model for treatment of Chronic Pain Syndrome. In addition to Sports Psychology and treatment of Chronic Pain Syndrome, other areas of interest are: mood disorders, bariatric psychology, exercise adherence, and adolescent issues.
Rick received a Certificate of Training in Behavior Analysis from the Institute of Applied Behavior Analysis (SC). This training has been used to perform functional behavior analysis of children and adolescents with difficult-to-manage behavioral issues and then to design a behavior protocol to assist caregivers in understanding and managing these challenging behaviors.
Through the years, Rick has consulted with schools, large & small businesses, fire departments, and fitness centers to help these organizations meet the physical and emotional needs of staff, students, and customers.
Rick is licensed to practice psychotherapy in North Carolina and Vermont and is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and a member of the APA’s Division of Sports and Exercise Psychology.
